living in flowers, or the rolling South Downs combined with the rustic elegance of the barns that have been lovingly restored keeping all the charm and character, it is simply the perfect setting for a romantic wedding in a rural, picturesque location that offers a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The diverse backdrop and breathtaking views of this rustic wedding venue are phenomenal. A secluded country idyll set in the heart of the South Downs National Park, and one of the prettiest barn wedding venues in South England.
Every time I photograph an Upwaltham Barns wedding, its not only a bonus that it's a ten minute drive from my house, but it literally puts a smile on my face when I enter the courtyard, there's an almost magical and enchanted feel to it, whether it's the beautiful roses and my over-active imagination of fairies

Tim and Nicola are involved in every wedding giving a really personal touch. With exclusive use and being located just half an hour from the coast, and surrounded by the historic Goodwood estate, you really do feel like you're celebrating your private wedding with your loved ones a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
This family owned and run venue is delightful. Nicola is just so lovely, warm and welcoming, I always feel so comfortable working here which means I can really relax and focus on my job.
From the moment your guests walk through the arch and enter the flower filled courtyard in the heart of the venue, weddings at Upwaltham Barns have an outdoor vibe that is always fun and joyful. The gardens here are spectacular and adorned with really pretty planting making for truly beautiful photos.
With roses crawling the flint walls, a central water feature, outdoor seating with parasols, topiary and colourful planted pots, as well as the quirky added touches like the brass pans on the wall and the Moroccan-esque den, being prevalent, the pinnacle is the rolling landscape of fields, woodland, meadows , crop fields – the photo opportunities are endless.
With French windows opening out onto a little Juliet balcony, this Chichester venue comes with its own beautiful countryside hideaway, a honeymoon cottage with an elegant boutique feel to it. You can hire Jasmine Cottage for your final touches of bridal prep on arrival or throughout the day to freshen up, and, of course, spend your first night together as a newly married couple. I have to just say that as a Chichester wedding photographer I highly recommend including this gorgeous shabby-chic cottage for those final photos as a bride-to-be.
Another rustic barn accommodating up to 150 guests for dining, its tiled natural stone floor is heated, perfect for winter weddings and its neutral colours allow you to really put your own stamp on it, yet keep the countryside rustic wedding appeal with aged wooden beams and wrought iron chandeliers, while tea lights and fairy lights adorning the barn add a touch of romance to your wedding breakfast. There are large double doors opening out to magically lit gardens with an outside Moroccan style seating area. I also love the old country style Stable Bar adjoining the barn with it’s own seating area and authentic wood burner.
The East Barn is perfect place to say “I do”, with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the South Downs to one side, combined with wooden beams, flint stone walls, a neutral colour scheme and wrought iron chandeliers for an authentic touch, the ceremony barn has underfloor heating and is licensed for up to 150 guests, exiting out into the gorgeous courtyard to enjoy your drinks reception.
This cosy and stylish snug is perfect for your guests to chill and chat in the evening, away from all of the dancing and noise. It's so pretty and cosy with heaters so perfect even for the Winter months.
This West Sussex wedding venue is fantastic for large evening receptions as it can hold up to 200 guests. With room for a live band and the option to party until midnight, in my opinion as a fun wedding photographer that loves capturing dancing shots, this wedding barn venue really does have it all.

1. The bridal suite at Upwaltham is exquisite, it really is very romantic and photos in here, especially facing the natural window light are beautiful. If you are getting ready elsewhere then I really do recommend at least putting your dress on and applying your final touches to hair and make-up in here for some really beautiful bridal prep shots.
2. Be willing to go for a wonder out to the fields and meadows surrounding the venue, after all, what is the point in choosing a venue in a rural setting if you're not going to take advantage of this stunning backdrop. Being situated right in the South Downs it really is so worth taking your bridal party for a stroll and even for your romantic evening portraits - just imagine standing in a meadow in your wedding dress looking the prettiest you've ever looked with the sunsetting, creating a golden light set against rolling hills and having this all captured on camera. Be sure to bring wellies and umbrellas to ensure you get those outdoor shots irrelevant of the weather.
3. If you and many of your loved ones are travelling, for example, from London, make the most of this commute and have a ‘Big Wedding Weekend’ aka ‘Wedfest’! There are loads of gorgeous beach houses and even camping sites or more luxury glamping sites in the Witterings and near to Chichester, just scroll down to check out my list of accommodation near Upwaltham Barns.
4. Book some fantastic live music for the day, even if just as background music, there’s a platform in the courtyard that works like a stage and for summer weddings, in particular, they give a real fun outdoor wedding vibe to your day. My personal favourites are Stevie Pommie, an incredible acoustic singer and guitarist who always ends up with guests dancing and singing along – AMAZING – you can find him on Alive Network, and also for background music I’d highly recommend Steel Strum, I photographed Alex’s wedding and have worked with him at so many weddings before this and since, and he’s superb. The steel strums are really unique and lovely to listen and dance to while still being able to hold a conversation with friends.
5. Visit the venue at the same time of year that you are planning to have your wedding so that you can see exactly how it will look, you’ll only be disappointed if you book it because you simply loved the meadow behind and the flowers in the courtyard in June, only to find it's all gone come October when your Wedding day is, it will still be gorgeous, but maybe not how you’d envisioned it.
6. Book me for your Upwaltham Barns wedding, hehe. I am just down the road, and as a venue buddy I offer a discount to Upwaltham Barns clients (*NB. not in conjunction with sales) already discounted packages).
A Little Note...
Upwaltham Barns weddings are typically British, and this gorgeous venue really does suit couples who want a rustic barn in a rural location and picturesque setting for their wedding - it's definitely one for those who love that outdoor vibe, yet wish to keep guests from wondering too far, it's easy to keep everyone in one place despite the idyllic rural surroundings.
I have photographed weddings here in both sunshine and rain, they've been equally beautiful and couples really have made it their own with the Upwaltham staff always going above and beyond.
If you are foodies and I mean you like your meat and real British food then out of many wedding venues in West Sussex, Upwaltham Barns weddings always deliver on this!
