Wedding of the Year
This was so torn especially as this need to be decided between both me and Becci, and Becci only attended one of these two, so we have 3 in Weddings of the Year! Not bad out of 28
Joint 1st Place: Edward & Samantha
This is down to a mixture of style, class, a gorgeous, classy yet fun Bride & Groom of course the atmosphere! The day was incredible, just see the blog post about the day to see why…
Joint 1st Place: Anna & James
Friends and absolute stunners! This involved trip to Italy to the sensational Castello di Modanella in Tuscany with my awesome photographer, Tim. We, had such a blast with friends and this gorgeous couple, I mean look at them, they’re like models! Their style was full of class and having a whole wedding weekend completely gave it a new feel and atmosphere for everyone. SO many memories of James & Anna’s wedding, ones we will always remember – from James face when receiving his Rolex, to Anna fanning herself during the ceremony, a wedding ceremony full of a rain shower, giggles, lots of wine, Brides father speaking in Italian, Uncle Walter getting everyone up and singing swinging napkins to a romantic first dance under the stars and lots of drunken madness until 4am! Check out the blog post here…
2nd Place: Charleigh & Ross
What a sweet couple, this wedding was perfect. Yes there was some typical English weather, not everything ran smoothly, the generator broke-down at the reception, there was heavy rain and hailstones! But there was also sunshine, a Summer Fete style decorated marquee overlooking the most beautiful fishing lake, lovely people, giggles, a beautiful and totally head-over-heels-in-love couple, with the sunshine creating the most luscious reflections of them and their guests in the lake. Yup, Bex and me thoroughly enjoyed this wedding and we just love seeing that Charleigh is forever posting the photos on her facebook page! See more of their wedding here.
Couple of the Year:
This one was definitely joint between Lee & Tony, Jenny & Shaun and Carrie & Chris
Lee & Tony – so very much in love, have been together for 11 years and one of the most attentive and friendliest couples we have ever had the pleasure of working with! The Latte as soon as we arrived went down a treat!
Jenny & Shaun – Now this has got to be the most relaxed couple we have ever worked with, so easy, friendly, relaxed and genuinely happy! Now Brides smile A LOT on their wedding day but Jenny went above and beyond, the giggles between these two during the ceremony was adorable and the whole day had such a relaxed and calm atmosphere, their was nothing rushed about this day at all and everything about these two was simply perfect! A big thanks from me & Becci for having us be a part of your day.
Carrie & Chris – Just simply the kindest, relaxed, friendliest couple, so kind and friendly it was a really lovely day. You could see how relaxed everyone was and how much they were enjoying Chris & Carrie’s wedding at Fitzleroi Barn in Fittleworth. Carrie was 5 months pregnant on the day of the wedding but decided not to change her dress and instead just loosen the corset! What a decision, usually I see pregnant Brides buying a different dress, but Carrie looked sensational and I just loved how she kept on naturally touching her little bump, which I have to say looked a lot smaller in the dress. Both really decent genuine people and an absolute pleasure to work with. A huge congratulations to this lovely couple, they now have a gorgeous two month old baby boy.
Best Dressed Groom:
James – What a stylish Groom! Check him out…. James and his two best men were looking dapper in their blue suits – the colour so unique. Tim and I loved it, so different from the norm, and it looked sensational with their Soft pink Gieves & Hawkes ties from Savile Row which James bought for each of his Groomsmen as a gift. James paired his bespoke tailor made 3-piece Cad & the Dandy suit with a pair of tan ‘Heston’ Loake brogues, he looked amazing, and should totally be on the cover of a magazine – with his stunning wife Anna too!
James certainly made the most of being a Groom and spoiled himself with the details including some Tom Ford shades, and Anna even treated him to a Rolex!
Best Dressed Bride – This goes to two Brides with different looks:
Samantha – OH THE SHOES! How I love these shoes…. Okay my favourites from this year have to be these blue Manolo Blahnik’s worn by our lovely bride Samantha. That “something blue”, and can be worn again, and well they are just LUSH aren’t they. She also changed into a pair of ivory Badgely Mischka’s in the evening!
Onto the dressES! Sam had two! Yes 2. An elegant piece of class by a private London Designer for the daytime, figure hugging to Sam’s gorgeous physique, and with elegant lace right up to the neckline. In the evening Sam changed into a short fun, less conservative dress by Ivy & Astor, Sam bought this little number from Lovely Bride in TriBeCa whilst in New York, so she could enjoy their carousel and cut some shapes on the dancefloor to their awesome band.
Emma – What classic Style with a Vintage winter look! Emma only married last Monday 29th December and she looked stunning. Emma is a friend of mine from school who I hadn’t seen since our teens so this was a really touching day for me. It meant a lot to be there, Emma is so lovely and has married a gorgeous Doctor! Get in there Emma 😉
She found this authentic coat on a shop in the States on Etsy called Sown Threads, and she had this pretty dress made by Dig For Victory in Brighton, paired with sparkly shoes form Dune.
Blog post to come soon but here’s a little sneak of just how gorgeous she looked just a few days ago! CONGRATULATIONS xx
Best Dressed Bridesmaids:
Guy & Anne-Catrin’s gorgeous bridettes! This age is definitely the most difficult age to buy a dress for, these girls were 12 and it’s that age where they are definitely past wearing pretty frills and puffy arms, yet too young to dressed look a woman! More often than not I find that Bridesmaids of this age often end up wearing a very plain straight silk dress, straight down to the floor and high neck with no shape.
Anne-Catrin and her daughter chose these stunning dresses from I Love Gorgeous in Notting Hill. They come in a range of colour, but this sage green worked perfectly with the English Country Garden style theme, matched with beautiful ivory roses, peonies and mint and Anne-Catrin wearing none other than a Vera Wang Dress! You can see their wedding style here
Most random Photos of the Year:
I think the photos say it all! Absolutely LOVE them.
Suppliers of the Year:
Paul Fish – Now I have to admit, I’m not usually a fan of DJ’s, but we met Paul at Matt & Fiona’s weddings in August and he was awesome, created one hell of an atmosphere and that dancefloor was rocking all night!
Now this was 100% Flood the Floor – they did exactly that too, they could switch straight between styles on request and I mean anything, from Salsa to Drum n’ Bass to RnB to Classic Rock to Rock n’Roll to classic tunes to Ballads and to absolute PERFECTION! Never before have Bex and me wanted to hit that floor so badly! I had to get on the stage at one point just to capture some photos as the dancefloor had literally been flooded with guests! The lead singer had the Bride & Groom doing a dance-off, he was dancing with the Mother of the Groom, and got the Auntie up singing! Now if there’s a band I could recommend to create a mind blowing atmosphere and a wedding to remember, it would be these guys! I would book them for my wedding any day and they would be totally worth every penny…
Merry Go Round AKA Carousel from – Just check out the fun photos from Edward & Samantha’s wedding day, they are nothing better than FABULOUS!
This has to go to Field & Fork, the official caterers at Southend Barns – the pork belly is to die for, it’s literally mouth watering, and not to mention the Salmon Quenelles in Lobster Janet, Phil and the team put on the most attentive professional and yet friendly service. They are amazing at what they do, and guests always love the service as well as the delicious food. You don’t even have to wait until your wedding, why not visit their restaurant in Chichester
Now often this is between two of the Bijou Venues, Cain Manor and Botleys Mansion and Southend Barns. Out of these 3 I have only photographed at Southend Barns, of course a long with a long list of other venues! Southend Barns totally deserve this because not only is this a simply stunning very with a mix of the rustic and authentic feel along with a modern stylish and classy touch to it, but the service here is impeccable. Now I’m not just saying this based on what I see on the day but also this is from what I hear all of the time from the couples themselves that marry here. I photograph at Southend Barns regularly and so have worked with a lot of couples there, the couple, vendors and the guests always have excellent things to say about the venue and the service. They are devoted staff who really do want you to have a fantastic day and experience before, during and after the wedding! A must see and highly recommended.
Now this is so difficult as I have seen so many gorgeous flowers this year and worked with soooooo many incredible florists! I have to mention at least four of the florists:
The lovely ladies at Rococo in Chichester:
Gracie from The Flower Gallery in Chichester:
Meera from Full Bloom in Chichester:
Emma from Wild & Green:
Okay I have two here, the super talented magician with WOW factor, Spencer from Spencer Wood Magic, who I met at Olly and Vicki’s wedding at Ramster Hall in August, he was amazing and left everyone dazed and confused and in awe of him!
These two lovely guys from Southampton, Simon and Alex from Steel Strum, were bloody awesome! Me and Tim were totally blown away by them at Dom & Alex’s wedding in June, and were literally doing our own little jig across the lawn while photographing! They were so talented and everyone loved them. If I ever get married, I will be hiring these guys! I’ve heard loads of Steel Drummers at various weddings over the years but none as good as these two.
This year we worked with quite a lot of videographers, which isn’t the norm as it goes. Now ask any Wedding photographer or Videographer and you will find they often clash! Yikes, it can be difficult, we both want the best spot, we both want time with the couple, we can get in each others way…. I actually love to make friends with Videographers, we often have the same kit and some has resulted in us swapping and testing each others lenses! I try my hardest to not get in their shots and like to be of assistance where I can by letting them know if there’s any details they may not know about, or any surprises or if I’m taking the couple off somewhere if they wish to come along so they don’t miss it.
This year my favourite was definitely Luke – he filmed Shaun & Jenny’s wedding and worked in a similar style to me, he was unobtrusive, a giggle to work with, friendly, knew exactly what he was doing (always nice to see), and the results were superb. Check out his work on his website Rocking Stone Weddings.
You may wonder why this little flowergirl is featured here – well, because everytime I look at these photos I think of Luke! He was desperately trying to capture some footage of her, and I was trying to capture a nice portrait, she just wouldn’t stay still, then Luke told her there was a ladybird on the grass…. yes he told a porky, haha, bless she was looking for ages (above right), and then stood up and looked at him (above left), with a look in her eye like she’d just realised he told a fib! Naughty but lovely Luke.
I have to add on here, my great friend Richard. He is a massively talented Commercial Videographer and co-founder of Itch Media in London. His business partner George recently married in Italy and Rich was an Usher so couldn’t exactly film the day but he did make this awesome fun clip in the evening. It’s quirky, funny and an alternative to the traditional – something that you’d definitely enjoy viewing and to have a giggle too! Rich is branching out into wedding videography so if you like his style, just let me know, we are even talking about offering packages together.
Easy, this of course goes to Lucy from ID image Consultancy. I have lost count the amount of weddings I’ve seen her covering this year and she always achieves the most beautiful results whether they are after a natural or more dramatic look. Lucy and her team are lovely and super talented.
This goes to both Lucy as above with Make-up, and also to Mark & Dawn who did the hair for Carrie & her Bridesmaids below. Love these two, they even look awesome!
The lovely Mark & Dawn, and their work:
Top tips of the Year:
1. Consider booking a second photographer for your wedding. Now don’t get me wrong, one photographer is absolutely fine, I do this a lot and capture stunning photos, however to complete your story of the day think about having photos of both of you getting ready rather than just one of you! Not only this, but also two different perspectives throughout the day, just see the photos below:
2. ENJOY YOUR WEDDING – Relax, enjoy and take it all in, your day is going to whizz by and rarely does everything run exactly to time, there may be mishaps, something may run late, your guests never notice and after all whatever happens you will look back on everything and be glad you had a rare, unique or funny memory to laugh about. Don’t worry about anything and just enjoy every bit!
I would just like to take this opportunity to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all of my lovely Couples I have photographed this year, it has been an absolute pleasure working with each and every one of you. Me, Becci, Tim, Simon and Kelly have had some great times, and lots of great memories and experience to take with us from 2014. You can also see our Favourite photos of the Year 2014 in our latest post here
To all of our future Brides and Grooms we can’t wait to see what your weddings are going to bring to the table and what are we are going to capture next! Thank you so much for booking us and we can’t wait to work with you – To 2015…. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
